From 3 to 4

Soon our trio will be expanded to a quartet and like most transitions in life this one will come with challenges. After two years, our family finally has things figured out (or at least as much as one can with a more and more independent toddler in the house). My husband and I have found our rhythm and our routine, we can anticipate Baby 1.0 melt downs, and we have found some time for each other and ourselves.

With Baby 2.0's arrival in a few short weeks the stability that we have created will be disrupted. During the next six months (and maybe up to a year) I'll be a walking zombie, prone to meltdowns and tantrums (on par with Baby 1.0's impressive fits) due to lack of sleep, and lost in the fog of newborn mothering.

I also fully anticipate that Baby 1.0 will resent the loss of two-on-one attention and my husband will feel forgotten, and frazzled. I find comfort in knowing that there are thousands of moms out there that go through this transition.

I also know that we have an amazing support system to call from including parents and parents-in-law who are phone call away and many friends who will respond instantly to questions on how to navigate within a family of four.

Will this upcoming adventure terrifying?  You bet. Will we eventually find our way? Of course. Are we excited to become a family of four? Undoubtably.
